Qiu Rong Handmade Noodles

I remembered that a few years ago, the food court at the basement of Roxy Square used to be quiet most of the time, except in the evenings when people come for its famous Parkway Parade Steamboat and on Sundays when Christians from nearby churches come for lunch after service. But today when I was there, I was surprised to see a long queue in front of this stall, Qiu Rong Handmade Noodles.

Hence I joined in the queue and ordered a bowl of ban mian with prawns which cost $3.50. Just in case you are wondering why my serving looks so huge, I have requested for an extra $0.50 of vegetables to be added.

What distinguishes Qiu Rong from the other handmade noodles is the quality of its soup. Filled with the natural sweetness and delightful essence of meat, the flavorful soup goes very well with the smooth handmade noodles. The generous servings of minced meat and green vegetables are very tasty and fresh.

Certainly my idea of a healthy meal, Qiu Rong handmade noodles is definitely worth trying if you are around the Katong area. They also serve a variety of other dishes eg fried dumplings, Fuzhou fishballs, ABC soup, lotus soup etc.

Top 1 Home Made Noodle

The odds of finding two delicious home made noodle within a month must be very low. Yet, soon after featuring Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle in City Plaza, I came across Top 1 home made noodle in Chinatown.

I ordered a bowl of prawn ban mian which costs $3. Topped with prawn, minced meat, mushroom, vegetable and fried anchovy, the homemade noodle is smooth and tasty. Filled with delightful seafood broth, the soup is remarkably sweet and flavorful.

Certainly better than the home made noodle from Poon Nah City, what Top 1 lacked is a special chilli paste to go along with the noodle. Nevertheless it impresses with its outstanding seafood broth. Come down and try it for yourself.

Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle

When I was taking photos of the Hari Raya bazaar in Geylang Serai, I stumbled upon Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle inside a coffee shop on the 5th storey of City Plaza. Surprised to see many people ordering from this stall when I didn't even know that this coffee shop exists, I couldn't resist but try it myself.

Upon seeing the wide variety of home made noodles eg prawn, fish, clam, abalone etc that Poon Nah City has and the thick chilli paste that it sells, I immediately noticed the striking resemblance between this stall and China Whampoa Home Made Noodle in Whampoa Drive Market.

I ordered a bowl of prawn ban mian which costs $3 and was served within 15 minutes. Topped with prawns, minced meat, vegetables and sliced mushroom, the home made noodle is thick and tasty and the piping hot soup is filled with delightful seafood essence. The special chilli paste is remarkably spicy and burns inside the mouth.

Although I have to admit that Poon Nah City home made noodle is one of the best in Singapore, I still prefer China Whampoa home made Noodle as the latter comes with more flavorful soup and deshelled prawns. However Poon Nah City home made noodle is open till 830pm on Monday to Saturday hence there is ample opportunity for you to come down to City Plaza to try it.

China Whampoa Home Made Noodle

I have found the BEST HANDMADE NOODLE (BAN MIAN) in Singapore. Located at Whampoa Drive Market, China Whampoa Home Made Noodle has the most delicious handmade noodle with an unbeatable chilli sauce.

For only $3, you get a bowl of handmade noodle with minced meat, sliced mushrooms and 3 large deshelled prawns. Rich with the concentrated essence of prawns and abalone clams, the mouthwatering soup is delightfully sweet and flavorful and complements the smooth noodles very well. The 3 enormous prawns are fresh and juicy and extremely value for money. The highlight of China Whampoa Home Made Noodle is the special chilli sauce that is extraordinarily thick and savory. The flammable chilli explodes into a kaleidoscope of flavours within the mouth and readily tantalizes the taste buds.

Featured on Makansutra, China Whampoa Home Made Noodle certainly lives up to its reputation in the reviews and recommendations. If you are a food fanatic like me, you must not miss the best handmade noodle in Singapore.

He Jia Huan Ban Mian

The best ban mian (handmade noodle) in Singapore used to be Qiu Lian Ban Mian. However, over the past few years, with the opening of multiple franchises, its impressive standard seemed to have deteriorated tremendously. Recently, after reading about the ban mian at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Staff Canteen which some bloggers described as the best in Singapore, I decided to go and try it for myself.

Finding the well-concealed Staff Canteen at Terminal 2 was no easy task. It was located at Level 3M and I went into a few wrong lift lobbies and staircase exits before I finally found it.

A bowl of He Jia Huan ban mian costs $3 for public and $2.20 for staff. Topped with generous servings of ikan bilis (fried anchovies), the delicious ban mian comes with a small saucer of chilli sauce. The thick and savory gravy complements the smooth noodles very well. The highlight of the ban mian is the exceptionally spicy chilli sauce made with fresh chilli padi that burns incessantly in the mouth.

I couldn't help noticing the similarities between He Jia Huan and Qiu Lian Ban Mian eg the texture of the noodles, the taste of the soup and the quality of the chilli sauce. Overall I didn't feel that He Jia Huan ban mian is the best in Singapore but it is certainly delicious and definitely worth a try. Happy searching for Terminal 2 Staff Canteen.
